Ultra Tufel ® Silicone Rubber
Compounds 96406, 96506, 96606 and 96706 are 40-70 durometer high clarity
low volatile fast-cure addition cured silicone elastomers for extrusion
and calendering. They combine all the productivity and processing
advantages of Tufel II with the added benefit of extreme high clarity.
They may be used by themselves or blended to intermediate durometers.
Applications include extruded profiles, tubing and calendered sheets
requiring “water clear” appearance. |

FDA regulation 21 CFR 177.2600 relates to rubber articles intended for repeated food contact. The composition of products 96406, 96506, 96606 and 96706 complies with this regulation. Momentive Performance Materials does not however, have data on file which indicates that this product when cured and properly postbaked will meet the extractive limitations of 21 CFR 177.2600 for repeated use with dry, aqueous, and fatty foods. It is the manufacturer’s responsibility to evaluate the level of extractives of this product under their specific curing and post-baking conditions. USP CLASS VI STATUS Ultra Tufel Silicone Rubber Compounds 96406,
96506, 96606 and 96706 have met the requirements of USP Class VI testing.
Sample preparation for Class VI testing was a 2-hour at 177C (350F) post
cure. Compliance is based on a single batch which is considered
representative of production. It is the responsibility of the end-user to
verify compliance of the final fabricated product. Questions on the above
testing should be directed to the Product Regulatory Department of Momentive Performance Materials
Silicones. |

CA-6 (Curing
Agent)
CA-6 curing agent reacts with the crosslinking agent in base materials to form cured Ultra Tufel Silicone Rubber Compounds. A sufficient quantity is provided with the base material in the original container, but additional quantities may be utilized for potential increase in the cure speed. It is recommended that the CA-6 curing agent be stored in the freezer for optimum shelf life. To decrease the cure speed, CA-6 curing agent may be blended with CA-5 curing agent. Both CA-6 and CA-5 curing agents are available as individual components. FRESHENING PROCEDURES The appropriate base compound should be thoroughly freshened on a two roll rubber mill before the addition of the CA-6 curing agent. For optimum blending, freshen both the base compound and the curing agent and then work the curing agent into the base on the mill. A minimum of ten turns on the mill should ensure an adequate blend. The bases may be blended together to achieve intermediate durometers. Start by milling the higher durometer base and then adding the lower durometer base to the mill. The final step is the addition of the appropriate curing agent to the blended bases. Addition of fillers and process aids may cause cure variation and change in the typical property profile and clarity. The mill rolls should be chilled to keep the mill and compounds as cool as possible while mixing, under 30C (86F). Crosslinking is initiated at higher temperatures. After addition of the curing agent, structure will begin. Structure is dependent upon time, process and storage temperature and the viscosity of the compounds. With the CA-6 curing agent, structuring will develop in 4-8 hours unless the blended compound is covered tightly with polyethylene to eliminate exposure to the atmosphere. Structure will be slowed significantly by placing the catalyzed mixture in a freezer. If the mixture has structured, it can be re-milled before fabrication to reduce the degree of structure. CA-6 curing agent should be stored in the freezer prior to mixing with base compounds. Extra care should be taken to avoid contact with low activation temperature peroxide catalysts which may cause hazing and incomplete cure. PACKAGING - Mixing Ratio Ultra Tufel Silicone Rubber - 96006 Series grades are supplied with the base (99 parts) and curing agent (1 part) in a single container. Blending Ratio is: Base (99 parts) to Curing Agent (1 part).
